Poincaré and Brouwer on Intuition and Logic
In the beginning of the twentieth century the Dutchmathematician Luitzen Egbertus Jan Brouwer published his first papers on intuition and logic. There is no indication that Henri Poincaré was aware of these publications, but it would have been interesting to know what he had have to say about them. In this article Dirk van Dalen, Emeritus Professor Logic and Philosophy of Mathematics, compares ...
متن کاملOn the Derivation of Brouwer Algebras
Let D ∼= 1. In [36, 36, 28], the main result was the extension of universally Gauss scalars. We show that ∆a,t is standard and Gaussian. It is not yet known whether Λ̂ = p ′′, although [36, 4] does address the issue of uniqueness. Here, completeness is clearly a concern.
متن کاملKANTS: Artifical Ant System for Classification
This paper investigates a new model that takes advantage of the cooperative self-organization of Ant Algorithms to evolve a naturally inspired pattern recognition (and also clustering) method. The approach considers each data item as an ant that changes the environment as it moves through it. The algorithm is successfully applied to well-known classification problems and yields better results t...
متن کاملHeyting-Brouwer Rough Set Logic
A rough set logic based on Heyting-Brouwer algebras HBRSL is proposed as a basis for reasoning about rough information. It is an extension of Düntsch’s logic with intuitionistic implication, and is seen as a variant of HeytingBrouwer logic. A Kripke semantics and natural deduction for the logic are presented and the completeness theorem is proved.
متن کاملDid Brouwer Really Believe That?
This article is a commentary on remarks made in a recent book [12] that perpetuate several myths about Brouwer and intuitionism. The footnote on page 279 of [12] is an unfortunate, historically and factually inaccurate, blemish on an otherwise remarkable book. In that footnote, in which Ok discusses Brouwer (who, incidentally, was normally known not as Jan but as Bertus, a shortening of his...
متن کاملClassical Brouwer-Heyting-Kolmogorov Interpretation
The Brouwer-Heyting-Kolmogorov interpretation explains the meaning of logical operations as operators that construct proofs from proofs of the operands. The BHK interpretation is usually understood as giving intuitionistic interpretation for the logical operators, but, as pointed out by Troelstra and van Dalen [12], it is possible to understand the BHK interpretation classically. We elaborate t...
